Emaar Aquarium welcomes its visitors with a brand-new experience: Kumtopia. The look on a child’s face the first time they see it says everything about why this area has everyone talking.
At first glance, it might look like an ordinary sandbox. But the moment a child digs their hands into the sand and builds a hill, everything changes: the image projected from above turns that hill into a real mountain. Dig into the sand and the hollow fills with water, and a river begins to flow. Here, children aren’t just playing they’re shaping their own little world with their hands and watching it come to life right before their eyes.
So how does the sand come alive?
The secret lies in the sensor and projection system mounted directly above the table. The sensor instantly detects the slightest change in the sand, and the projector redraws the image accordingly. With no delay in between, the landscape shifts the moment a child moves the sand. That’s why no two games at Kumtopia are ever the same.
We have two tables offering the same experience, so even on busy days children don’t have to wait long for their turn. The tables are designed to be wheelchair accessible, so every child can play with ease.
Six themes, six different worlds
What visitors love most about Kumtopia is how it transforms into a whole new adventure with every visit. There are currently six themes to choose from:
Ocean: as the sand is dug away, seas take shape and fish and sea creatures glide through the water. A natural extension of your aquarium visit.
Dinosaurs: dinosaurs roam the terrain you create, as hills, plains, and pools of water become their habitat.
Bugs: the colorful world of tiny creatures comes to life across the sand.
Safari: the vast plains of the African savanna, where lions, giraffes, and elephants wander.
Fossils: here, the skill is in digging. As the sand is uncovered, fossils and hidden traces emerge just like a real explorer.
Arctic: a completely different, snow-white world of glaciers, ice, and creatures of the cold.
More than just fun
What makes Kumtopia truly valuable is that children learn without even realizing it. As they raise hills and carve out valleys, they’re actually seeing how landforms take shape; they experience first-hand how water always flows to lower ground and where seas and lakes gather. They discover which creatures live in which environments right within the game—meeting the inhabitants of the glaciers in the Arctic theme, the savanna in Safari, and the coral depths in Ocean.
All of this is geography, natural science, and ecology in their most tangible form. In fact, the same technology is used as an educational tool in museums, science centers, and schools around the world to teach children about topography and ecosystems. Unlike passive screen time, learning here happens entirely through hands, movement, and experimentation; whenever children are curious about something, they can try it instantly and see the result.
A three-year-old and their primary-school-age sibling can both enjoy the same table, and more often than not, parents end up joining in too. In short, it’s a space the whole family can enjoy together.
And best of all, no separate ticket required
Kumtopia is included with your Emaar Aquarium admission ticket. While exploring the underwater world, you can stop by here too—at no extra cost. One ticket means the aquarium and Kumtopia together: a full, rewarding day out for children.
Come see for yourself
There’s only so much words can capture about Kumtopia; the real experience lives in the look on your child’s face. Be sure to stop by on your next visit to Emaar Aquarium.
